A little preparation before your online psychology session can make a real difference to your experience. Here are a few simple things to set up before you connect.
Create a comfortable space
Choose a quiet, private spot where you're unlikely to be disturbed. The more comfortable and settled you feel in your environment, the easier it is to focus on your session.
Limit distractions
Turn off your phone notifications before you start - though keep your phone nearby, as your psychologist may call you from a private number if there are any technical issues connecting to the session.
Close any apps and browser tabs on your computer that you won't be using. This is also important to prevent other apps from overriding your device's video and audio, which are needed for the session.
Check your technology
Use a desktop or laptop with a working webcam, microphone and headphones, and make sure you have a reliable internet connection before your session begins.
