Can I claim psychology sessions through private health insurance?

Learn whether your private health insurance may cover psychology sessions and how to estimate your rebate when booking through My Mirror.

If you have extras cover that includes psychology services, you may be able to claim a benefit through your private health insurer for eligible psychology sessions.

Private health insurance claims generally cannot be used for the same session that has been claimed through Medicare under a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP/MHCP).

As coverage and rebate amounts vary between health funds and policies, we recommend contacting your private health insurer directly to confirm your eligibility and level of cover.

However, when booking an appointment through My Mirror, you can use our Private Health Estimate feature during checkout to see whether your health fund may provide a rebate and estimate your potential out-of-pocket cost before confirming your booking.
