Important information for couples therapy

Key details to know before starting couples therapy at My Mirror, including session length, billing, psychologist matching and how to link partner accounts.

Before getting started, here are some key things to know about online couples therapy at My Mirror.

Session details

Each couples therapy session runs for 80 minutes, giving both partners time to share and explore their concerns. Sessions are conducted via My Mirror's secure platform.

See our guide on how to join a couples therapy session for step-by-step instructions.

Billing and Medicare

Medicare rebates do not apply to couples therapy. All sessions are billed under private fees, linked to the primary account holder who manages payments and cancellations. See our pricing page for full details.

Psychologist matching

Use the Get Matched tool to find a psychologist who aligns with your relationship goals.

If you currently see a My Mirror psychologist for individual therapy, you will need to choose a different psychologist for couples therapy. This helps ensure specialised and impartial support for both partners.

Your upcoming bookings tab will indicate whether a session is an individual or couples therapy session.

Linking partner accounts

Partner accounts need to be linked before a couples therapy session can be booked. See how do I get started with couples therapy? for instructions.

You can confirm your partner link via the Settings tab. To unlink accounts, both partners can do so via the Settings tab. Please note that accounts can only be unlinked if there are no existing bookings.

  • Confirm partner link - You can confirm your partner link via the settings tab (as shown below)

  • Unlinking partner accounts - Both parties can unlink their accounts via the settings tab. Accounts can only be unlinked if there are no existing bookings.

Attending sessions

Partners can join from different locations or from the same device. LGBTQIA+ affirming and culturally responsive psychologists are available to support all relationships.

A note on your psychologist's approach

Your psychologist will not take sides. Their focus is on helping both of you communicate more effectively and work through challenges together.
