Important information for Couples Therapy

Updated over a month ago

Before getting started with online couples therapy, here are some key details to keep in mind:

Session Details

  • Each session lasts 80 minutes – longer than traditional therapy, giving both partners ample time to share and explore their concerns. See our guide on How to join couples therapy session.

  • Sessions are private and secure – conducted via My Mirror’s secure platform.

Billing & Medicare

  • Medicare rebates do not apply – All couples therapy sessions are billed under private fees.

  • Billing is linked to the primary account holder, who manages payments and cancellations. Please see our pricing page for more information.

Psychologist Matching

  • Use the Get Matched tool to find a psychologist who aligns with your relationship goals.

  • If you currently see a My Mirror psychologist for individual therapy, you’ll need to choose a different psychologist for couples therapy. This ensures specialised and unbiased support.

  • Your upcoming booking tab will indicate whether it is an individual session or a couples therapy session (as shown below).

Linking Partner Accounts

  • Partner accounts will need to be linked to book a couples therapy session. See our article on How do I get started with Couples Therapy?

  • Confirm partner link - You can confirm your partner link via the settings tab (as shown below)

  • Unlinking partner accounts - Both parties can unlink their accounts via the settings tab. Accounts can only be unlinked if there are no existing bookings.

Attending Sessions

  • Partners can join from different locations or use the same device.

  • LGBTQIA+ and culturally sensitive psychologists are available to support all relationships.

Neutral & Supportive Guidance

  • Your psychologist will not take sides but will focus on helping you both communicate effectively and rebuild trust.
